Summer 2020 Update (April 6th)

Dear Gilboa Community,

We know that by the time summer rolls around, our campers will need a good dose of camp fun along with the opportunity to be with friends, be outdoors, and challenge their hearts and minds! With less than three months until camp begins, and our understanding about Coronavirus constantly evolving, we feel cautiously optimistic. We continue to accept camper applications and currently plan to open summer camp 2020.

Still, with uncertainty so prevalent in our lives right now, and to address everyone’s financial concerns, we would like to reassure you of the following:

  • In the event camp is cancelled, or should you choose to cancel your child’s participation, your tuition and deposit will be fully refunded.

  • We will inform you by May 15th, 2020 if we have to cancel first session, and by June 1st if we have to cancel second session.

  • The scholarship committee continues to accept applications as we are committed to all families having access to camp regardless of ability to pay.

As summer gets closer, we’ll continue to closely monitor recommendations made by the LA County Department of Public Health, the CDC, and the American Camp Association. We are working closely with our medical advisory committee* to implement their recommendations to keep our campers and staff safe and healthy, and we are confident in our preparedness for this challenge. As with all Camp Gilboa endeavors, the health, care, safety, and well-being of our camp community are paramount.

Gilboa campers and counselors are wonderful innovators and community builders, and we are finding new ways to connect, new ways to have a community, and new ways to be activists:

  • Find some relief by connecting with a Gilboa counselor to be a Homework Buddy.

  • Encourage your kids to participate in fun activities happening online - this weekend we learned new dances, made bagels from scratch, and competed in a trivia game show! All upcoming activities are on the blog and on our calendar.

Wishing you health & connection during this time,

Dalit and the entire Camp Gilboa staff and Board

PS: Here are some great resources that might help when talking to your children about the virus and its impacts:

*Our medical advisory committee consists of 3 physicians: an Infectious Disease specialist, a Family Doctor with extensive experience doctoring in summer camps, and an Emergency Room physician who is the Director of EMS & Disaster Preparedness Programs at a UCLA affiliated hospital.
