Dear Gilboa Community,
We're writing to update you about our Pick-A-Parties and how they've been going!
What’s a Pick-A-Party, you may be asking? It's when parents, alumni, madrichimot, and/or other members of our community volunteer to host a party or share an experience, and then everyone gets to sign up for the parties or experiences that interest them. Everyone has fun, both the hosts and the attendees get to write off the money spent, and the funds received go to support Camp Gilboa.
We've been having a blast at the Pick-A-Party events so far, see below for pics and more!
We still have 3 parties left, so you don't have to miss out on the fun - take a look at the upcoming options below and register for a Pick-A-Party TODAY for an unforgettable opportunity to raise fun(ds) for camp!
What people are saying so far...
Bay Area Bollywood Night
Bollywood Night was an absolute blast! From the moment the guests walked in, we were transported by the vibrant and beautifully themed decorations. The food was absolutely delicious, with rich flavors and spices that made every bite a delight. But the best part? The amazing company. It was such a joy to connect with so many wonderful people, all sharing in the fun and energy of the evening.
One guest even remarked, "if this is what a Gilboa event is like, the Gilboa community must be truly incredible!" The warmth, inclusivity, and spirit of togetherness made the night unforgettable.
Kimchi & Chords
What do you get when you take 32 lbs of napa cabbage, 6 lbs of radish, 2 lbs of garlic and ginger, salt and spices? An amazing afternoon of making kimchi! Seven eager fermenters washed, salted, blended, sampled and mixed a potent concoction of cabbage and spices to make 768 ounces of kimchi. Everyone was involved in each step of the process, mixing up the kimchi just like all traditional Korean grandmothers. And, during a brief interlude, we gathered outside to strum songs, with recent tzevet member Livvy Mullen doing her best Bob Dylan impression (we have the pics!). Each attendee went home with jars of kimchi, and the piquant memories of kimchi-making. We hope more join us next time!
MAGA Jews: How Haredim Became American Religious Conservatives
On November 24th, community members and friends met at Jesse and Dani Lainer-Vos's home to hear Gilboa parents and professors David Myers and Nomi Stolzenberg's talk about the political transformation of the Ultra-Orthodox American Jewish community. It was a fascinating and sobering talk, but the presence of many good friends together made it fun.
Groovin' with the Galactic Ambassadors
We had a fantastic time dancing to the tunes of the Galactic Ambassadors featuring Gilboa parent David Beenhouwer! Hosts Tyson & Naomi gave us a great salsa lesson that even the newest dancers could keep up with. We got to meet the parents of our kids' camp friends, and we can't wait to hang out again!

Ancient Jewish Coins and the Secrets They Tell Us
What: The earliest coins provide deep insight into the story of Hanukkah. Later coins show the increased influence of Rome leading to the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE. They also provide hints to long forgotten stories. We will also see the Jewish symbols that dominated Judaea in this period as reflected on these coins and compare them with the coins minted by the Samaritans during the same period. Stephen "Shmuel" Feingold was a Jewish Studies major and a Sir Simon Marks Fellow at UCLA. 10 years ago, Steve began collecting ancient Jewish coins and is excited to share the insights and knowledge this hobby has provided. He has taught classes on ancient Jewish coins at Limud, local synagogues, and online.
