Freezing temperatures, Havdalah, and more...we got our hands dirty and had a TON of fun at Work Weekend this fall! A HUGE thank you to Roxy's mom Camille Watts-Zagha for cooking us amazing food this weekend! We are so grateful for you. Keep reading for more!
Work Projects
Throughout the weekend, families and campers were able to participate in various work projects to help prepare the site for winter. Here's a few highlights of what we were able to accomplish:
Sherutim (bathroom) deep cleaning
Dug out culverts to divert snow melt from buildings and prevent flooding
Winterized the pool and plumbing
Plywood put up around the chadar (dining hall) to protect the windows
The Yungmans got to go up on the misrad (main office) roof to clear pine needles!
Basketball hoop backboards were covered
Misrad and marp (infirmary) were cleaned, all marp supplies were brought up to the attic!
A small group of us made cards for the local Big Bear fire department as a thank you!
Havdalah
Arguably chanichimot's (campers') favorite time of the week, we were elated to recreate some of our favorite camp Saturday night traditions to share with Work Weekend volunteers. When the sun went down on Saturday, we put on our cozy sweatshirts and said goodbye to Shabbat through havdalah (closing Shabbat prayers) and kumzits (group singing). This year, we were treated to Joshua Goldman and Daria Blyveis' guitar accompaniement, with Daria and Mars Goldman on vocals.
Thank you so much to our mighty team of volunteers! We couldn't have done it without you. That's all for now from us at Gilboa. Stay tuned for more events and ways to get involved soon!
