Dear Friends,

2023 was an exciting year of transitions for Camp Gilboa. We were full to capacity and had our first-ever waitlist. We supplemented our amazing homegrown tzevet (staff) with madrichimot (counselors) from Israel, Australia, New Zealand, and England.

In the office, we said goodbye to Executive Director Elana Bloomfield and Associate Director Yahli Livni and welcomed Rebecca Green as Executive Director and Sydney Rosenberg as Assistant Director.

Following the 2022 sale of the Institute for Jewish Education building, a center of Labor Zionism and our city home for over 70 years, Gilboa and two other beneficiary organizations (NA’AMAT USA and Ameinu) collectively donated over $1 million to support Habonim Dror North America and its affiliated camps. Camp Gilboa invested the remainder of our share into endowment and reserves funds, and a fund to seed our capital campaign for critical camp improvements.

We are grateful to the founders and leaders of the Institute whose careful stewardship of the building allowed it to serve our community for generations and created an incredible investment in our future; to the donors who helped us rebuild our camp site after last year’s winter damage, and to all who help make camp affordable to our families.

On October 7th, we were all devastated by Hamas’s brutal attack on Israel, and mourn innocent lives lost on both sides of the border. We hope for the safe return of the hostages, an end to the fighting, and a diplomatic solution that upholds the dignity of all people in Israel and Palestine. Our tzevet prepared programming for Summer 2024 to support our chanichimot (campers) during this challenging time. As always, our education is guided by Gilboa’s values of peace, shivyon erech ha’adam (equality of human value), youth leadership, social justice, and building intentional Jewish community.

Thank you to everyone in the Gilboa community for your continued support in whatever ways you are able. Camp Gilboa doesn’t happen without you!

Warmly,

Rebecca Green (Executive Director)

Tyson Roberts (Board Chair)
